Confirmation Sponsor Guidelines
SPONSOR REQUIREMENTS
The Church recognizes Confirmation sponsors as people who are spiritual mentors, companions, and witnesses entrusted by the parish to journey with the candidate. Choosing a sponsor can be difficult. Go over the following list of qualifications with any potential sponsors before asking in order to make sure they are eligible. It is permissible that the sponsor be a Baptismal Godparent. Sponsors are asked to be involved in the Sacramental Preparation and formation as much as possible. A Sponsor MUST be a practicing Catholic who has received the Sacrament of Confirmation. If the sponsor is not from St. Julie Billiart or St. Peter Church, the sponsor MUST secure a Sponsor's Certificate from his or her church. It should be given to the candidate and MUST be returned as a part of this Confirmation Materials Packet.
